Spice World, Part 1

Ok, there are lot of spice photos coming up, and I'm going to get some of these wrong.  But the first set I'm confident about.  The first two are peppers, ie, black/red/green etc.  We were told by the spice guru that all pepper comes from the same plant, and it's merely a question of when it's picked in terms of ripeness and what's done to it that determines its eventual color, but that pepper is all the same seed.  These plants grow very high - we'll have more angles of pepper plants when we're up on the elephant - and the seeds themselves are small, quite numerous, and the leaves are dark green.

The second two are coffee plants - much bigger leaves, and while the coffee beans also grow in numerous clusters, they are bigger than pepper.  Plus, as you can see from the third photo, they change color as they ripen.  This was from one of the many spice garden places along the road that would charge a nominal admittance fee for a 30 or 45 minute tour, then try to get you to buy a bunch of spices in bulk.
