Nice Carousel

There was another thunderstorm this afternoon that forced us to take refuge in a Spanish tapas restaurant for close to three hours.  We finally caught a bus back to the hotel, but even now the thunder is still rolling by, though the rain is much lighter now.  Anyway, we passed this enormous carousel.  It's closed, either for the rain or the day of the week or the time of the day, but it has very cool mermaids adorning the second level.  On the lower level - photos to come if they turn out, since there were drops of water falling from the trees that disrupted the camera - are elephants, donkeys, lions, camels, dolphins, and many more, besides the horses.

Bikinis in France

I have always liked the French department store Carrefour.  In part that was because it has a tremendous selection of wine, cheese, cured ham (in Spain, anyway) and other essentials.  In part that was because I always liked saying "Carrefoure!" with a faux French accent, because it kind of sounds like you're cursing.  But now it is in part because of this advertisement, according to which, for only 5 euros, you can buy either the top or the bottom, depending on your interests at the time.  I am in favor of countries that sell half bikinis.  I believe I'll go down to the beach now.

On Beverages in France

There is the possibility that we have had more than just coffee and eau de carafe since we have been here.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

More on French Dogs

"Pop Dog" and "Star Dog" were just two of the pet clothing stores we passed on our way to the old town district.

Flowers in Nice

Besides the flowers growing on nearly every terrace or entry area, we stumbled into a very large flower market yesterday morning, and passed many people carrying large bouquets back to their homes along with a loaf of bread and a bag of fruit or cheese.

Views of Nice

This evening we walked all over the city, again; I believe we walked around 6 hours today.  We had dinner at an Italian-Corsican restaurant, La Villa, after a wine bar/restaurant we walked to had, we discovered by the sign on their door, moved to a street whose name we didn't recognize.  There was a major thunderstorm during dinner and it rained very hard, but we didn't care because even though we were outside, we were under a tarp.  But our brilliant plan for cutting down to the main boulevard and catching a bus to our hotel hit a snag - it turns out that buses in Nice stop running about 9:30 at night.  So that was another 45 minutes or so of unexpected walking.  My feet are now officially sore.
